Limited edition: hand-dyed silk 20/2nm (perle 8)

£2.75 - £24.75

These are 100% mulberry spun silk skeins, hand-dyed in small batches by a cooperative in India - they are the only threads here that are not dyed by me.

These threads came to me with a warning about colourfastness; the dyeing process the cooperative uses means that there may be some loose dye remaining in the finished threads. I have scoured, washed and rinsed all of the threads myself, and there was some slight colour loss in the threads containing magenta (in pinks and purples) and blue (in dark greens). Unfortunately I can't guarantee that there won't be more colour loss in a repeated wash. If you need to wash your finished project, then please test and wash the skeins again if necessary before you stitch with them - cool hand wash, minimal agitation, cool rinse, and air dry. That said, I have tested a few of these colours in my own work and haven't encountered any problems with colour loss.

There were a lot of knots in the hanks, which I have tried to eliminate when winding into smaller skeins, but there are a few skeins that do inevitably still have a knot in them. If you do receive a skein with a knot, then I have added an extra couple of yards to make up for it. Knots generally don't matter too much if you're using the thread for embroidery because you'll be cutting the thread into shorter lengths anyway.

Because of the knots (which I find irritating) and the colourfastness issue, these skeins are priced a little lower than my own hand-dyed silks. They are still lovely to work with, and they stitch beautifully.

Skeins are approximately 25 yards; the colour ways are as follows:

TDS1 pretty pastels - pale pink, pale green and cream
TDS2 mountain sunrise - deep orange, sunny/creamy yellow and grey-lilac
TDS3 sunset - vibrant orange, sunny yellow, lemon yellow, rose pink/brown
TDS4 fire - red, orange and very dark blue
TDS5 tutti frutti - space-dyed, changing colour every few inches: yellow, blue, jade green, pink, orange - very pretty in use, nice for seed stitches
TDS6 bright meadow - spring greens with pink/lilac/yellow stripes
TDS7 rose - rose pink, coral pink, greys
TDS8 muted meadow - similar to TDS6 but more muted and slightly darker - greens, turquoise, lilac and creamy yellow
TDS9 mountain pine - lime green, purple, lilac and very dark forest green

As for all the other thread skeins, they count as a large letter for mailing purposes. Overseas postage is expensive - I only charge what it actually costs for posting and packaging - but you can add any number of skeins to a purchase at no additional cost.
